Dear Jacque and Bakers--
I hope this soulful event continues for years to come. If I've received a loaf but might not be able to be at the downtown events, is it cool to break bread with others in the name of "Bread?"

The hardest part is to find something white to wear? The "why white" conversation is occurring: bakers and white outfits? purity? floured bodies? butoh? I feel honored to be asked to participate-- now to find something white. JB

Thanks! That was really fun. I think we threw our bread crumbs too early, but we had a great time in the processional!

Hi JB,

Why "white" you ask? Good question!
With many answers.

White is a color associated with ritual in many cultures, and BREAD brings together diverse people from all over Austin to engage in a public ritual of hope.

White is also the color of many things associated with baking, such as flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, and even chef's aprons!

Wearing all one color in the parade also unified us as a community of artists, artisans, citizens, hopers, believers, and dreamers.

BREAD HAS COME.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Love,
The Bakers
